The Resurrection of Barnabas Collins V=V

The moment you pop in Disc One, you are treated to an option menu with the Dark Shadows soundtrack playing and the Collinwood Estate with midnight blue and the eerie faces of Barnabas Collins.

The option menu will display Dark Shadows: The Introduction. This is a 3 hour, 50 min. condensed version of the beginning of "Dark Shadows". You do not have to watch this to get involved in the new storyline you are about to see.

Below on your screen is a timeline. You may begin with the first episode, #210, of this collection.

You may choose any episode you want to see by clicking on to the date, all episodes in this collection will play straight through to the next episode.

Although "Dark Shadows" began June 27 1966 as a daily soap opera before or after "General Hospital" in your area, the story of Barnabas Collins (beginning with episode #210) returning to Collinsport to stake his claim and sink his fangs into who belonged to him, was the real turn around for "Dark Shadows" and its success.

There is another DVD collection available as "Dark Shadows: The Beginning" (episodes 1 - 209) which is the very beginning of the "live" soap opera before the Barnabas Collins storyline began.

This Dark Shadows DVD Collection Volume 1 begins with episode #210 to #250 (April 17, 1967 to June 9 1967), each black & white "live" episode is approx. 20 minutes.

It will only take you 15 hours to watch every episode in this 4-disc collection.

Every episode is unedited and in the correct order.

Teaser storyline: Since Victoria Winters has arrived in Collinsport and is now a resident in the Collinwood estate, she has been the nanny over 10-year old David Collins.

The lavish estate is a fairly new mansion that was built for the Collins family. David likes to go to the former place now known as the "old house". It is a very old house now full of dust,cobwebs and creaking floorboards. The Collins family and ancestors use to live there. David likes to play there, however he is quite taken with a portrait of Josette that hangs over the mantle of the living room fireplace. David has also seen the ghost of Josette there.

The new estate, known as "Collinwood", now belongs to Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and her brother Roger Collins. Carolyn Stoddard also lives there. Elizabeth is the matriarch of the Collins family and is very well educated on her family history. She no longer has a husband as he disappeared 18 years ago. Elizabeth is a tough cookie, but she withholds secrets of her own.

Jason McGuire and Willie Loomis have been living in the estate as guests. Things have gotten so bad that Elizabeth Stoddard has demanded that both Mr. McGuire and Willie leave her property immediately, in fact, with the help of Mr. McGuire she wants Willie out of Collinsport for good.

Willie has not been well and the sly McGuire can not find him. McGuire always thinking of himself tries to talk to Elizabeth about him staying on.

Willie has his own interest in the Collins and has researched 200 years of the family.

We see Willie enter the Mausoleum in the Collinsport Cemetary. He tries to open a particular coffin, but just then he ties a connection to a decorative lion with a ring handle in its mouth. Upon gently pulling the ring handle, a secret door opens.

There lies another coffin. As Willie attempts to open it, the heartbeat sounds again and then suddenly the eerie quietness of the dark. As Willie opens the coffin and sees inside, he is frightened by a ringed hand that comes out and grabs his neck. Later Barnabas Collins, alive and resurrected, visits the Collinwood estate.

The theatrical talent and dramatic flaire with the spooky elements in "Dark Shadows" really keeps the television viewer glued for episode to episode making you yearn for more. You are even treated to a cliff-hanger quite often.

Because the show was done "Live", the actors literally had to run from set to set and be in position to say their lines before the previous scene ended. The cameraman could help a little bit. Heavens forbid a costume change, but a commercial was welcomed.

In these "live" episodes, you are bound to see sets moving, flubbed or forgotten lines, a stutter, camera in the way, a person in the way, anything can happen on live tv...maybe you will see a ghost.

Note: Nancy Barrett met David Ford on the show (She was 24, he was 41) and they married in 1967. It lasted for 2 years.

#247 is a very pivotal episode.

End of disc includes an interview with John Karln, but beware, he spoils the ending of Dark Shadows about his character "Willie".

The color episodes will not begin until Collection #3. There are 26 DVD Collections to the very end. But, alas, "Dark Shadows" has been resurrected in recent years and will again as filming begins in 2009.

Dark Memories

I gotta tell you. I was in elementary school when this show played on TV and I saw it everyday! For years I talked about it and shared stories with my children. Now that I have the first box set, they too are getting hooked. This show was a real shocker in the sixties, and I am so glad that it is still effective today.. Bless you Mr. Frid....

i remember coming home from grade school and watching DARK SHADOWS with my mother every day . not knowing i`d become so interested in the story line and the actors . I can only say one thing about DARKSHADOWS ..FANTASTIC !!! IT`S THE ONLY THING I NEED TO SAY ABOUT THIS SERIES ... I WAS HOOKED WHEN I WAS MUCH YOUNGER .. TODAY COMPARED TO THE GARBAGE ON TV , I CHOOSE TO WATCH THINGS THAT INEREST ME THE MOST .ONCE YOU`VE SEEN ALL THE EPISODES , YOU`LL WANT TO START OVER AGAIN , AS ME ......GREAT SERIES , I PLAN TO OWN THE ENTIRE SET OF EPISODES ON DVD.... The Haunting Review

This product was shipped very quickly. I bought these movies for my son. He and his friends are very "into" this sort of thing. They have watched the series on T.V. and plan to watch them at sleep overs.

Scary and Thought Provoking Show without Gore

I was a fan of A Haunting when it ran on the Discovery channel and I was very sad to see them cancel this show. A Haunting was produced by New Dominion Pictures, who did the FBI Files and the New Detectives series that also ran on Discovery. For those who are not familiar with the show, A Haunting covers real life experiences of encounters with the paranormal. Interviews with people who experienced the paranormal activity are included. Some appear in shadow and the show is augmented by reenactments of their stories. What sets this show apart from others is the high quality production values and interview with both the individuals and the paranormal investigators who assisted them and shed light into their craft. The various methods of scientific study and differing types of hauntings, demons, phantoms and etc. are fascinating. This show is scary, (scarier than many horror movies, it was so well produced) there is no gore, but the atmosphere is extremely creepy. If you watch some of these episodes late at night, they can give people bad dreams, as seveal of my coworkers will attest. It is so well done, that the actors simply blend into the roles. There are four seasons in this set. I will share some of my favorites.

Season 1

Hell House - A demon story featuring the renowned Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the scariest shows of the entire series.

Season 2

Gateway to Hell - A haunted nightclub built on the site of an old slaughterhouse by the Licking River which flows true north. Another one of the scariest of the series.

Hungry Ghosts - A house in Taiwan that was built to curse its inhabitants. Another series scariest.

Where Demons Dwell - A young boy is tormented by a deomonic presence and Ed and Lorraine Warren are called in. Very creepy!

Ghost Solider - A haunted photograph complicates a lonley woman's life when she finds not one but two spirits.

Season 3

Fear House - A house that sends many of its occupants fleeing. One former resident attempts to help another family before its too late.

The Unleashed - A man plays with witchcraft and suffers the consequences. Very scary.

Wheatsheaf Horror - A a spirit haunting a pub in Britain attacks those within and a psychic faces her own fears.

The Possessed - A paranormal investigator becomes possessed herself and seeks help from legendary demonolgist John Zaffis. One of the the scariest of the entire series.

Season 4

The Apartment - The spirits of a drug dealer and his victim haunt a young couple and terrify a psychic.

Where Evil Lurks - A family discovers that their house is a portal to hell. When one demon is banished another takes its place. Another scary one.

Casa De Los Muertos - A famous musician with the gift of sense battles a deadly ghost. I won't give away the twist of this story. Another creepy tale.

Legend Trippers - Teens are fascinated by an eerie legend in an old cemetery. Sereral groups who experienced the haunting are profiled.

A Haunting is an excellent show that will make you think twice about how to perceive the world. It is also interesting to see how the people handled what they experienced. Some turned to their faith, others turned away and many who did not believe in the paranormal now do.
